Your clients' app: what they see and how to get them to use it

An app for personal trainer clients is worth little if your client never opens it. What decides whether they use it is what they find when they log in (what is on today, and how much weight they lifted last time), how little effort it takes to log what they have done, and how easy it was to get started. Here is what your client sees in the Entrenify app, how to set them up smoothly and how to get them to open it every week.

What your client sees each day

The client app has “Hoy” (Today), “Progreso” (Progress), “Dieta” (Diet), “Agenda” (Schedule), “Documentos” (Documents), “Chat” and “Perfil” (Profile). Each section answers a question that, without the app, they would ask you by message:

SectionWhat the client finds
HoyToday's routine, where they log sets, reps, weight and RPE.
ProgresoTheir own progress in charts, their weekly check-in, their measurements and their progress photos, which require a separate consent.
DietaIf you handle their nutrition, their diet and their shopping list grouped by supermarket aisle; they also log what they really eat, with a photo.
AgendaTheir upcoming appointments with you.
DocumentosWhat their trainer has shared with them and what they have uploaded themselves.
ChatThe conversation with you, with attachments and voice notes.
PerfilTheir details and their consents.

The key section is “Hoy”: if the client opens the app and knows what is on without asking you, you save yourself the daily message. The rest saves them from digging through the chat for a PDF from three weeks ago.

Logging what they do: where it is won or lost

For you, the app is worth what the client logs. If they record what they do, you can review it without asking for screenshots; if they do not, you are back to asking by message and the app becomes a routine viewer.

Two things help them log:

  • Make it useful to them, not just to you. When logging, the client sees how much weight they used for each exercise last time. It is the information they need in front of the machine, and it gives them a reason of their own to log.
  • Make sure they know what to log. If you use RPE in your routines, explain in the first session how you understand it. A field the client does not understand stays empty.

If the client trains with you at the gym and at other times on their own, ask them to log the sessions you are not at as well. Those are the ones you cannot see.

Onboarding: getting them in on day one

Onboarding in Entrenify works by invitation. You create the client's record with their name and email, and the system sends them a single-use link to set their own password: you neither choose nor see their password. The link expires after 72 hours; if it lapses, you send another and the previous one stops working.

The app is not on the App Store or Google Play: it is installed as a web app from the phone's browser. For the client, that means not searching any store; for you, that it is worth showing them how to install it on day one.

It is best to do the onboarding with the client in front of you, at the end of the first session or on the first call: you send the invitation, they set their password, install the app and you open the “Hoy” section together. Those few minutes save you plenty of “the email isn't arriving” messages later.

How to get them to open it every week

An app the client opens on day one and then forgets saves you nothing. These habits are up to you, not the tool:

  • One channel only. If you send the routine through the app and changes through a messaging app, the client will not know where to look. Keep everything about training in the app.
  • Reply to what they log. A short chat message about a logged session shows them that someone looks at what they record.
  • Answer the check-in. You can answer the client's weekly check-in, and they get a notification that you have done so.
  • Keep documents in their place. The PDF plan, instructions or any other file go in “Documentos”, not in email.
  • Schedule the reminders. On each appointment you can schedule reminders by email and push notification, which are sent automatically at the set time: you do not have to message them before every session.

None of this guarantees a client will stay, but it does stop them leaving the app because they could not find where things are.

Checklist for their first week

  1. Onboarding done with them in front of you and the app installed on their phone.
  2. Routine assigned before they leave the first session.
  3. You have shown them how to log a set and where to see last time's figures.
  4. They know where their schedule, their documents and the chat are.
  5. They have given the health-data consent the app asks for (without it they cannot log) and, if you are going to use photos, the photo consent.
  6. You have replied to their first logged session.

What the Entrenify app does not do

So there are no surprises for your clients or for you:

  • No app in the stores: there is no app on the App Store or Google Play; it is installed as a web app (PWA) from the browser.
  • Images, not video: catalogue exercises have images, not video.
  • No video calls: there is no video in the chat and no built-in video calling.
  • No wearables: it does not connect to bands, watches or activity apps; what you see is what the client logs.
  • No WhatsApp or SMS: it does not send notifications by WhatsApp or SMS; appointment reminders go by email and push notification.
  • Health data with consent: until the client gives explicit consent to the processing of their health data, they cannot log their workouts or measurements from the app, and body photos carry a separate consent.

How you prepare the routines they then see in “Hoy” is covered in how to build routines without losing hours, and what to do with what they log and tell you in the check-in, in tracking online clients. Prices and plans are on the Entrenify home page (in Spanish).

Frequently asked questions

Do my clients have to download the app from a store?

No. The Entrenify app is not on the App Store or Google Play: it is installed as a web app from the phone's browser.

Can I see or change my client's password?

No. You create their record with their name and email, and the client receives a single-use link to set their own password; the trainer never chooses or sees it.

What happens if my client's invitation expires?

The sign-up link expires after 72 hours. You send a new invitation and the previous one stops working, because only one link is live at a time.

Does the client see the exercises on video?

No. Catalogue exercises have images, not video. If a client needs to see a movement on video, you will have to sort that out another way.
